Program
Theme: Paradigms in Peace Making & Peace Keeping
Saturday, November 19, 2005
Le Moyne College
The 2005 Conference of the Central New York Peace Studies Consortium
will be taking place at Le Moyne College on November 19, 2005. We invite
papers from all areas of peace, conflict, and social justice studies
from any disciplinary perspective. The program organizers are particularly
interested in proposals that address this year’s theme: Paradigms
in Peace Making & Peace Keeping. As we move into the 21st Century
it is important to examine the different paradigms of peace keeping/peace
making as they have evolved and as they are evolving. Are we moving
away from a state-centric approach to conflict management with an increased
role for non-government actors and regional or international organizations,
or have the recent events in Afghanistan and Iraq reified unilateralist
impulses? What role do local organizations and even individuals have
in peacemaking? Papers could also examine conflict-specific processes
such as peacemaking in Palestine/Israel, in the Balkans, in Sudan, the
Korean Peninsula, or any other area of ongoing concern. Another area
of useful inquiry would be the role/limitations of Peace and Reconciliation
Commissions, especially from a comparative perspective. While these
are possible topics, all papers and panels relating to peacemaking and
peacekeeping will be considered.
The deadline for proposals and abstracts is September 15, 2005.
Please send proposals for a panel, workshop, or roundtable discussion.
Limit proposals to no more than 500 words. Also, send abstracts of articles
(no more than 500 words) for consideration.
The organizing committee is receptive to many different and innovative
formats for the conference. You may propose individual or group ‘panel’
presentations, but please clearly specify the structure of your proposal.
All proposals will be reviewed by the organizing committee with preference
given to papers focusing on the program theme.
Accepted presenters will be notified by email by September 2005.
Please send proposals, abstracts, and biographies electronically to:
